I never understood why people would use layaway unless it's for something on sale; if you don't have the money in that moment, (I assume) you could still purchase it at sale price using layaway. Otherwise it seems pointless.
If you cannot afford it, don't buy it! I've seen layaway commercials, making it seem like the best thing ever but PEOPLE CAN SAVE MONEY ON THEIR OWN AND BUY IT WHEN THEY HAVE THE MONEY! Putting money on something you may not want by the time you pay it off seems ridiculous to me.
That's just my opinion. I'm the kind of person that doesn't buy something if I can't afford it. If I want it, I can save up to buy it but I wouldn't put my money into a store to hold it for me.
I agree with Megan - if you can't afford it, don't buy it until you can. Since you have to have at least $50.00 worth to use layaway and they charge you $5.00, that's about a 10% increase in price - where is the advantage for the sale prices??
Well for some people I know they can't save money if they tried to so layaway good to help then they the holidays.... I mean they might be able to afford it but just can't save the money because it burns a whole on their pocket
@ savril ... Exactly! I forgot to mention the $5.00 fee. I never knew they charged for layaway, I always thought it was free. Rip-off!
@ Barb ... yeah, I guess some people can't save but I never understand what was so difficult about it. I've been saving since I was 6 years old! It's never been a problem for me. If someone really wants something, they need to make the effort. Wasting money (the $5 fee) to buy it on layaway seems even worse of an idea.
